Services
Classroom Lessons
I will be teaching weekly lessons in the classroom that focus on important character development skills such as building a growth mindset and developing healthy and age-appropriate independence. This year, we are also delivering the Second-Step program. It focuses on teaching empathy, skills for learning, managing emotions, and skills for solving problems. Additionally, all 4th Graders will receive Botvin Life Skills Training, an evidence-based smoking/vaping prevention curriculum.
Individual Counseling
Your child may be struggling with some ongoing emotional issues that interfere with his or her school performance and could benefit from meeting with me regularly for private, short-term, solution-focused sessions. The number of individual counseling sessions will be determined on a case-by-case basis but typically conclude after 6 visits. After individual counseling has concluded, a student may choose to come see me on an as-needed basis during my drop-in hours, or I can refer you to a therapist for a higher level of care. No student will receive ongoing individual counseling without parent/guardian permission.
Parent Support Sessions
The best counselor your child will ever have is YOU! But we know parenting is hard and sometimes you just reach the end of your rope. Maybe your child is struggling with something, you feel like you’ve tried everything and you just need a couple new ideas. Maybe you’re tired or frustrated and just need a little feedback and encouragement. In a parent support session, I can offer you support, advice and resources, or just a non-judgemental space to vent.
Drop-In Counseling
Some students may experience a difficult day or a conflict with a friend, and could use some extra support or space to talk that day. If this is the case, students may choose to come see me on their own without a referral. Parent permission is not typically needed for a one-time visit, but if the student discloses any concerning information, I will be sure to contact parents and keep them in the loop about what is going on. Students are welcome to come in for drop-in counseling during my office hours:
Tuesday: 1:15 - 3:15
Friday: 9:15 - 11:45

Junior Hope Squad
This group is for 5th-grade students with excellent communication and empathy. They will receive training in how to respond or get help if they hear another student expressing feelings of sadness or loneliness. They will also receive lessons on things like healthy habits, helping others, managing negative emotions, asking for help, and more. They will work on things like service projects, spreading positive messages of hope, and making each student in school feel seen and validated. Hope Squad members must be nominated by teachers or by their own peers. I will contact parents to get permission for their child to participate after they have been nominated. Hope Squad will begin in the Fall and will meet on Fridays for 30 minutes after school.
